For the first time in the tournaments history, the World Amateur Chess Championship will be brought to North America continent and held on the northern shores of Chicago, one of the most culturally vibrant and diverse cities on the continent. The tournament will take place at Skokie, IL – U.S.A. and the dates are March 19 – 25, 2010. As per regulations, the World Amateur Champion will be awarded the title of FIDE Master with a rating of 2200. The Woman’s World Amateur Champion will be awarded the title of Woman FIDE Master with a rating of 2050.
The event is organized by Sevan A. Muradian under his North American Chess Association (NACA). Sevan and the NACA are most prominently known for the organization of 23 tournaments over the past 4 years offering FIDE title norms. Well known names such as Grandmasters Pascal Charbonneau, Ben Finegold, and Ray Robson have earned their norms at Sevan's events. Sevan is recognized by FIDE as both an International Arbiter and International Organizer.
The event will feature the largest prize fund in the history of the event, of $20,000 USD, along with FM and WFM titles to the winner and also top female participant. Additionally Texas Tech University, through the SPICE program (Susan Polgar), has provided two scholarships valued up to $36,000 each, for the top male and female performing participants.
